Maternity Leave & Breastfeeding

Longer maternity leave means more breastfeeding, study finds

    

A recent study released by Statistics Canada has found that mothers who take longer maternity leave breastfeed for longer durations. Canadian mothers who gave birth before December 31, 2000 were entitled to 6 months maternity leave, but those who gave birth after became entitled to a full year. Following this change, more mothers are exclusively breastfeeding for six months or more, the duration recommended by the World Health Organization and Health Canada. Happy Father's Day to all the amazing men out there who cried when they first held their newborn; who fell asleep in thier recliner chair with baby on their chests, held tightly in thier arms; who honestly make an attempt to put thier four year old daughter's hair in a bun for ballet class; and who read just one more story because Daddy makes the funniest sounds when he reads Robert Munsch!

Necessity is the mother of invention. Who said that?  Becoming a parent, as a mother or a father, is definitely a catalyst of invention and entrepreneurship.  Many parents are driven to become entrepreneurs because parenthood has made them aware of products or services that are lacking or that don’t exist.  Other parents are driven to find a way to work from home so they can spend more time with their children.
